Skinfood’s Tomatoe Sun Cream Review

Tomatoe sun cream? SPF? PA ++?What does it even mean?

Skinfood’s Tomatoe Sun Cream

Sun damage not only causes uneven skin tone, it also ages the skin. Sun exposure causes most of the skin changes that we think of as a normal part of aging. Over time, the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) light damages the fibers in the skin called elastin. When these fibers break down, the skin begins to sag, stretch, and lose its ability to go back into place after stretching.

Before we begin the product review, let’s discuss some of the major terminologies we read on  most sun protection labels ok? I too, had not idea why spf 15, 30, 50 was needed on top of the PA pluses(++++).

So what is SPF?

SPF, or sun protection factor, is the measure of a product’s ability to screen or block the sun’s harmful rays. However, figuring out which SPF you should wear can be very confusing, especially with SPF numbers ranging from 2 to 100.

Here is a simple SPF guide when choosing sunscreens:

SPF 15 apply every 150 minutes or 2 and a half hours of protection

SPF 30 apply every 300 minutes or 5 hours

SPF 90 apply every 900 or 15 hours of protection

***The fairer the skin tone, the higher the SPF should be.***

So why protect the skin from UVA rays?

UVA are long waves that are less intense than UVB rays, but more prevalent and can penetrate through clouds and glass (even indoors the skin may still be exposed!). These rays reach the deeper dermal layers of skin and and can damage your skin’s collagen and elastin causing premature aging, & wrinkling.  90% of wrinkles are caused by sun damage!

UVA rays deeply penetrate the skin and can also penetrate clothing and glass.  UVB rays are not as strong as UVA rays, but they are the main cause of sunburns and skin cancers and thus are just as damaging, if not more damaging, than UVB rays.-Accdg. to Dr. Oz.

So what does PA+++ mean?

PA means UVA protection. This is a Japanese or Korean rating system to show how much protection you are getting from UVA rays. You will see either PA+, PA++, or PA+++ on the label, with more + signs meaning a higher level of UVA protection.

PA + least amount

PA++ meduim

PA+++ most

Types of sunscreen:

Chemical Sunscreen are formulated to absorb sun rays. This type of sunscreen has no white cast or streaks once applied on the face. Feels lightweight although not indicated for sensitive skin. Some ingredients of this type of sunscreen are: oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate and octinoxate.

Physical Sunscreen. This formula on the other hand is best for sensitive skin. It blocks or deflects the harmful sun rays. Common ingredients to find for this type of sunscreen are titanium oxide and zinc oxide. The only downside of this type of sunscreen is the white cast or streaks once applied onto skin which is a no no on flash photos!

Okay, so in a nutshell, just use a sunscreen  with a decent amount of SPF. The higher doesn’t really mean the better. If you plan to spend the whole day outdoors, don’t just rely on SPF. Use a wide brim hat, umbrella or simply stay in shades. Using SPF on a daily basis while indoors is also a must. The sun’s harmful rays could penetrate through glass too! The sun’s harmful rays not only damages the skin, it dehydrates any living organism. Also, anyone over the age of 6 months needs sun protection.

Now that’s out of the way, sorry for the long intro. Let’s move on to the review.

Sun protection is always a must for my daily skincare. My skin  tan’s easily but the thing the I most hate is when my sun burned skin starts peeling. So today’s something is. . .

My experience with the product:

Since it contained “zinc oxide, it was a chemical sunscreen which was better than okay for me since I have sensitive skin. As expected the cream had a white cast after applying. I only added a tinee tiny amount and blended it quickly since the formula dries up to a matte and powdery finish.  The scent was not in any way tomatoes, but it smelled great!

This was my go to sunscreen for the past month and so far, it didn’t break me out.

skinfoodsuncreamtryonbyeyeseesomething.com2017.

spfreviewbyeyeseesomething.com2017.

When using this sunscreen, I prefer not to use any makeup on top of it. The powdery/matte finish didn’t last on my face and after an hour, my face started oiling up all over the areas where I applied the sun cream. I didn’t mind the “dewy look” for cooler places but just imagine how my face would turn out on hot and humid places.   It  may help in keeping my face from cracking up with dry patches. My face immediately looks brighter due to the white cream formulation. It does feel like a heavy cream in consistency so I had to dab just a few then blend it really well on my face to avoid streaks.

So I went out, walked around with by huge forehead exposed to the sun just to see how well this sun cream would perform under heat and sweat. As you can see, my forehead started looking like a  grease pan. I took a snap while walking around. My face starting to sweat due to the heat and my evidently becoming “shiny” all over.

Overall, I liked it but not enough to re purchase it.  It smelled really nice and protected my skin for a good 5 hours. This would probably work for lighter skin tones  and dry skin types since it adds extra moisture as it sits on the skin especially on sweat. But I don’t recommend this for oily skin types like mine.

Product rating: 🍑🍑🍑/5

Effectiveness🍑. The sun cream protected my skin pretty well. I did like the scent but not really the consistency and formulation.

Packaging🍑 Easy to use squeeze out tube. The product is dispensed in small amounts which gives great control.

Price-For the price of $7.25 for 50ml, it was a little too pricey for my range.

Availability🍑Purchased online but widely available on all skinfood outlets.

Score interpretation:

🍑🍑🍑-Good enough to try.  Would repurchase it if was on sale.

Rire Pore Tightening Toner review.

Hello beauties! Welcome to another eyeseesomething review!

Today’s something is about a PORE TIGHTENING Toner. Presenting. . .

Rire’s  Pore Tightening Toner

Purchased @Althea.kr for $1.75. To get $15 off your first purchase click here.

Pore tightening fresh toner:

Indicated for oily combination skin with large pores. Formulated with white clay to control and remove excess sebum on the face leaving it soft and smooth. Excessive sebum causes widened pores which then causes the following:(Accdg. to Althea.kr)

  • blackheads
  • rough or tough skin
  • dark uneven tone of skin

The product weighs 300 ml. It has a blue colored container but the formula is clear and bubbly. The instructions were to shake the bottle a few times since there was sediments forming at the bottom of the bottle.

My skin type:

Oily combination skin. My T-zone (forehead, nose and chin area) tends to get oily during the day and I get dry patches on the sides of my nose, cheek area and along the edges of my lips.

From Althea.kr

May be used both ways:

  • toner
  • calming pack

I prefer using this product as a toner. After cleansing my face, I then apply a few drops of the RIRE Fresh Pore Tightening Toner and remove all the remaining dirt the cleanser was not able to remove. After using the toner, my face gets a little bit dewy from the bubbly formulation.

Rire toner try on by eyeseesomething.com 2017

Thoughts:

I’ve been using this toner for almost a month and I haven’t gone through half of the bottle yet. This toner could literally last me months! I did notice my skin peel a bit initially then it stopped after a week. It  just might be due to my sunburn. The toner does leave my skin dewy and a little tacky after which probably is the reason for the bubbly or soapy formulation. As you guys can see from the image above, the toner on the bottle seemed to look like blue, but as I poured it out, the fluid was just clear.

This toner removed all the excess dirt and oil left on my face after a regular facial cleanser. For the pore tightening claims, my pores are still very visible. Maybe I should see those results the longer I use it. By the way, I do have oily combination skin and right now, dry patches around my nose and cheeks appear due to the  cold winds of fall fast approaching. This toner also leaves an extra shield of moisturizer after using. Almost making it ‘dewy’ looking. I usually wake up to an oiled up grease pan like face but after using this toner for weeks, my skin is not that oily or flakey just soft and smooth. It’s not a substitute for a moisturizer but it really does give just a little bit of  moisture.

The toner smelled really nice. A “perfumey” baby soap clean scent to it plus a strong scent of alcohol. I did drop the bottle a few times and thankfully it didn’t break that easily. I also liked that it was not formulated with parabens and strong chemicals but once I applied this toner on an open pimple, it gave a me horrible painful sting. So I would suggest not using this on a open wound.  I also did see a few bumps appear while using the toner but after a week, the bumps disappeared. It might just be an initial reaction since my skin has not been used to toners. The last toner I tried was over a year ago.

Overall, I did love this as a toner but what I really was looking forward to the pore tightening claims which didn’t really manifest after weeks of using it. Sigh, sadly I won’t be repurchasing this item. With that I’m giving this product a rating of:

🍑🍑🍑/5

for:

Packaging: 🍑 Clean blue and white labeling. The bottle was made out of a hard plastic material that could withstand accidental falls and  breakage( necessary for a clutz like me).

Effectiveness: 🍑 Although it was not so evident in pore tightening, I appreciate the effect it gave in controlling my oily skin. It does leave my skin a little bit dewy after using it plus it cleans out all the left over dirt on my face. It also gave me an initial “bumps forming” reaction.

Price:🍑 It’s currentyly sold for $1.50 @ Althea.kr if I’m not mistaken.

Availability: It was only available online.

Score Points: 1 point equivalent to 🍑. Total score is 5.

Score interpretation:

🍑🍑🍑-Good enough to try but won’t repurchase. 🙄
